You wouldn't know by looking at our Mom that she loves sparkles. What I mean by that is she isn't the Mom who wears the bedazzeled shirt that spells out "One Hot Mama" or asks to get the rhinestone embellished pedicure. She just has a fondness for a little glitter, sparkle & shine! So that is what we gave her!

Here are some pictures of what we did to give this party a little sparkle!

I stumbled upon Heath Ceramics in Los Angeles while shopping with a friend a few years back. Since then, I occasionally take a peak at the website to see what is new, drool over the shapes and colors and promise myself that someday, I will own an incredible collection of mix and match Heath peices. It wasn't until today that I really read about their history and philosophy and it just made me that more excited to invest and hold sacred the handywork or our fellow Americans. Heath is a company that has been around since the 40's and they have managed to stay true to the original owner Edith Heath's ways of being frugal and resourceful in 1946 - qualities she learned from growing up in the Great Depression. She believed in quality and the idea to do things right the first time.

Go read Heath Ceramics story!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/21/look-at-what-i-found-on-black-eiffel-what-a-great.html"><rss:title>-</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/21/look-at-what-i-found-on-black-eiffel-what-a-great.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>favors</dc:subject>

Look at what I found on Black Eiffel ! What a great idea for a favor for a party. Be it a cooking party, a harvest party or even a farm to table dinner....
One of my favorite parts of planning a party is coming up with a favor that will be a little present to your guests and not something they’ll just trash. For a backyard harvest party that I recently threw, I sewed up some tote bags created from dish towels (I told guests not to look too closely at the stitching) and then filled the table with some fresh takeaways: monster cookies, baguettes, strawberries and flowers. Overall a simple concept but appreciated and not ignored. At least that’s what my guests made me believe!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/16/glitter-corn.html"><rss:title>glitter corn</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/16/glitter-corn.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>DIY decor fall glitter corn thanksgiving</dc:subject>

I hate to admit it but when inspiration is down, you can always turn to the classics from our one & only frienemy...Martha Stewart! Oh Martha...how you come up with these things!

Tools and Materials

Craft glue

Fine glitter in Florentine Gold, by Martha Stewart Crafts, at Michaels

Corn How-To

Pick some ears of dried corn to glitter fully and other ears to do more sparingly, so your arrangement doesn't go overboard. For the former, coat fully with craft glue and glitter. For the latter, use a foam brush to lightly dab some kernels with craft glue, then apply glitter.

To soften husks so you can shape the ears when you arrange them, steam over a kettle of boiling water once the glitter has set. Gourds need nothing more than a glittered stem to shine.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/11/book-wreath-for-halloween.html"><rss:title>Book Wreath for Halloween!</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/10/11/book-wreath-for-halloween.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Book Wreath DIY decor Halloween</dc:subject>

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/9/18/baby-shower-for-bennett.html"><rss:title>Baby Shower for Bennett!</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/9/18/baby-shower-for-bennett.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Events</dc:subject>

This is such a fun post for me to be writing about because it is so dear to my heart! My 'Oh So Talented' Mom & Sister threw me a little family baby shower for our soon-to-be arriving baby boy, Bennett! It was so beautifully done and reminded me of why I went into business with my Sister & also made me wonder why we haven't recruited my Mom into to the Society Picnic family yet {although she is one of our unpaid consultants that we bounce idea's off of & also get such great concepts from!}

I had told Sarah that the nursery was tones of Grey & Yellow and they ran with it! From the yellow & grey striped paper straws, the handmade building blocks painted in yellow & grey tones, to the Welcome wreath made out of yarn pompoms & ribbons, the entire aesthetic was so simple, elegant and just so charming!

Take a look at all they did on our Real Parties link! Thank you Mom & Sarah for all that you did! I was just stunned and it was such a nice party!

The theme was bbq & brews! The centerpieces were made with beer mugs from the 99 cent store, Sunflowers and custom beer labels that said "It's Dad's Day!" We bought these cool wood ledges at IKEA a while back and instead of hanging them on the wall we use them often down the centers of tables to contain things like corks, candles and in this case for Dad...PEANUTS! It was a potluck of Homemade BBQ Sauce, my Mom's amazing homemade pies {Apple, Cherry & Rhubarb} a recipe that has been passed down for generations and I am afraid to say that I think my sister and I are next in line to learn how to make that flaky crust and some other delicious dishes! Another guest at the party was Alpine Brewery! My mother-in-law had picked up 4 growlers of their most amazing brews! We lined them up on the drink table along with little descriptions of each and gave them each a taste! It was a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who participated and much love to all the Dad's!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/6/20/chicken-robot-partygrayson-turns-3.html"><rss:title>Chicken Robot Party...Grayson turns 3!</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.societypicnic.com/blog/2011/6/20/chicken-robot-partygrayson-turns-3.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Chicken Robot Party kids parties</dc:subject>

So I know that I posted some pictures of Grayson's invite to his Chicken Robot Party aways back. Here are the pictures of the actual event! We hosted it at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano! It is the coolest place for anyone who hasn't checked it out!

Basically, we went with the "In a Perfect Day for Gray" theme. He had told me that there were some very important things that he wanted for his third birthday party...1. Chicken's 2. Robots 3. Chocolate Milk 4. A Big Hill 5. Control-Mote Cars (remote control cars) and 6. Cashy-bear (our Chocolate Lab). We set out to attack this one and tried our hardest to make this little man's dreams come true! The only thing that we missed was the big hill & the dog! Other than that we managed to handle the rest and it turned out to be the best party ever!
Thanks to everyone who made Grayson's third so much fun!
